Photos highlight company’s construction methods
Wausau, Wis. (February 1, 2008) – Wausau Homes, Inc., America’s #1 producer of custom-built homes, was pictured in the January 2008 issue of Builder, the magazine of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
The article, “10 Things You Need to Know about Modular Homes,” gave builders an overview of modular homes and the modular construction process. Featured were photos of Wausau Homes’ plant in Rothschild, Wis., and trusses being built in its factory-controlled conditions.
“Builder is one of the building industry’s leading trade publications,” said Travis Willman, communications coordinator for Wausau Homes. “Being included in such a prestigious publication demonstrates Wausau Homes’ presence in the market and its recognition as one of the nation’s leaders in design, technology and innovation.”
Willman noted that while historically Wausau Homes led the industry in modular home sales, the majority of its sales today are panelized homes, many of them custom. “With our panelized construction techniques, there are virtually no design limitations. From traditional to vacation, commercial to luxury, we continue to blaze new trails in this growing industry.” Modular sales comprise just 15% of the company’s overall sales.
Modular homes consist of two to four prefabricated modules complete with wiring, plumbing, sheetrock, siding, shingles, and all interior fixtures and trim. The modules are connected by the builder at the jobsite. Wausau Homes’ panelized homes consist of wall panels, floor panels, and trusses, which are delivered to the jobsite where the framing is completed and shingles, siding, cabinets, trim, and plumbing and electrical systems are installed.
Owned and operated by the Schuette family since being founded in 1960, Wausau Homes Incorporated is America’s #1 producer of custom-built homes, and works exclusively with independent builders in local markets. Builders have the flexibility to choose from the Wausau brand’s varied portfolio of house plans, or to have custom plans engineered to their specifications through Sterling Building Systems, a division of Wausau Homes. Based in Wausau, Wisconsin, Wausau Homes/Sterling Builders employs more than 500 people and services over 600 builders from three facilities located in Georgia, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
